Leblanc Concerto II Bb Clarinet MSRP: N/A Up for auction is a wooden Bb clarinet by Leblanc! This clarinet was taken in to our store as a trade. The bell has a slightly two-tone reddish tint when viewed Tenons are in excellent condition with little or no wear on the corners and the clarinet assembles without any wobbles. I took the photos to emphasize the very minor scuff marks on the wood that is shown in the photos(second photo) Otherwise the grenadilla wood is in perfect condition. I believe the pads are original to the instrument and a few are slightly discolored but they are all functioning perfectly. There are slight scuffs on some of the keys visible in the photographs. The key plating is 100% with very little tarnish. This is my 10 year old child's favorite clarinet to play on and she can play it easily in tune and with great intonation. With my other mouthpieces it is perfectly in tune. But I would caution that the clarinet blows a little flat for me with the Vandoren 13-series mouthpieces that I use on some of my other clarinets. Though the tone is not as flexible as on the R-13. Intonation is better and the scale more even on this clarinet than on my Buffet R-13. It plays extremely well with great dynamics.

The action on this clarinet has that lovely snickity-snick very precise feel that the best Leblanc clarinets are known for. I believe the clarinet was manufactured in 1983. The only real sign of wear on this horn is the gold on the Leblanc logo's.

The 500 LL is similar to the 400 series instruments, but the bore size is just a couple of millimeters wider. We don't see them often and yes, the design work was that of the late M. Leon LeBlanc's "Double LL -500 " basses are quite a bit more rare. Our Wichita Symphony Orchestra's bass player used one of these in our orchestra for more than two decades. Good design and scale, top-quality wood and keywork. Their "LeBlanc model 400" basses are also often available from us. We like these, always have them available, offered with 100% new pads and corks from our workshop in Wichita. Simplified register mechanism, but always with high-quality wood. Their "Noblet" altos and basses were produced for school use and for adult amateurs.

LeBlanc's 1970's clarinet catalog listed three basic models of wood bass clarinets, all made in their workshop just west of Paris:
